“The tip of a much more interesting iceberg”
Given such long-standing and extensive interest in all things Titanic, you might not think there was much left to learn. But National Geographic just opened an exhibit “Titanic: The Untold Story.” While the story of the sinking of the unsinkable RMS Titanic is well known, the story of the rediscovery of the shipwreck in the 1980s is less so. Now the reason the rediscovery mission was undertaken can be told, thanks to recent de-classification of previously classified information. And in involves a secret mission to identify the remains of two sunken Cold War submarines. (The photo above of the RMS Titanic in 1912 is in the public domain).
