During the summer months, archaeologists and other classical researchers studying the Mediterranean region leave their ivory towers and head into the field. Given the centuries-long interest in western society in the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome, it might be difficult to believe new information is still coming to light. This writer summarized some of the more interesting finds of this past summer. While certainly not an exhaustive list, it provides a useful starting point for armchair archaeologists and others interested in the classical past.
