Downsizing the largest US public lands agency

Under proposed budget plans, the US Secretary of the Interior has testified before Congress he attends to slash the number of staff by 8% of its full-time employees. The Department of Interior is responsible for managing approximately 20% of the land in the United States, much of which is located in the western part of the country. The Interior Department includes the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and other land-management components.
