Destruction of heritage sites by ISIS has been extensive. In recent months, as anti-ISIS forces have been making military gains, particularly in the battle for Mosul, the human toll of the Syrian civil war and ISIS’s push to establish a caliphate have understandably dominated the news. Yet despite the gains against ISIS in Mosul, the destruction of heritage sites continues.
