Edinburgh assists Turkey with the restoration of historic cities

The Scottish capital of Edinburgh is known for its two distinctive historic neighborhoods—the medieval portion containing the Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, the “museum mile,” and the spectacularly modern parliament building and the Georgian-period New Town with the spectacular Prince Street Gardens in between. Since 1995, the historic centre of Edinburgh has been inscribed on the World Heritage List, and in 1999 Edinburgh World Heritage was formed as a non-profit organization dedicated to overseeing and protecting the aspects of the city that give Edinburgh World Heritage status. Recently, the British Council awarded the organization £1.2 million grant to allow experts from Edinburgh to assist with restoring cities in Turkey that have been damaged curing the Syrian Civil War.
