Controlling tourism at Machu Picchu
As international tourism reaches new record numbers, the threat to the preservation and integrity of natural and cultural tourist sites continues to increase. The famous former Inca capital Machu Picchu, a World Heritage Site, is a case in point. As UNESCO considers adding Machu Picchu to the List of World Heritage in Danger, the Peruvian government is beginning a trial program to limit the number of tourists that can visit the site.
