King Herod’s massive mikveh uncovered

Archaeologists have been excavating at the site of King Herod’s fortified palace at Machaerus in what is now Jordan since at least the late 1960s. More recently, researchers have discovered the remains of a huge mikveh, or pool used for rituals in Judaism. While Herod did not initiate construction of the building at Machaerus, he did renovate it and added new features. The mikveh apparently was constructed for King Herod and his family.
