Libraries as Tourist Attractions
Many of the most famous libraries of the world are known not only for their extensive archival collections but also for their elaborate architecture and the art and sculpture housed within them. Among the most notable such libraries are the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, the Boston Public Library (the first public library in the United States), the Library of the Benedictine Monastery in Austria (the largest monastic library in the world), and the Trinity College in Dublin (pictured above). This writer encourages tourists to visit some of Italy’s historic libraries in addition to its more well-known Roman and Renaissance sites scattered across the country.
