7,000-year-old ice sheets are rapidly disappearing at Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park was established in 1910 and together with Canada's Waterton Lakes National Park, which it borders, forms the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, designated as the world's first such international peace park in 1932. While visitation to the park regularly tops 2 million people per year, the retreat of the glaciers due to climate change is having a drastic effect on the glacial landscape. This series of maps showcases the dramatic retreat of the glaciers over just the last 50 years.
