The Musée du Louvre, or Louvre Museum, is considered to be the world's most heavily visited museum, with more than 7 million visitors annually. Occupying in part a building that had first been constructed in the 12th century as the Louvre Palace, the museum itself opened in 1793. Since that time, the Louvre expanded its collections exponentially, and today contains some 380,000 objects and 35,000 works of art. As the high tourism season approaches, this writer provides some tips for planning your visit.
