Human populations have developed resistance to natural diseases both through evolution and through scientific breakthroughs. With the effects of climate change warming previously frozen areas of the earth, some long dormant (frozen) pathogens are beginning to be released. The resistance of humans to these ancient pathogens, and the potential effects on human populations around the world, are not yet known.
