The destruction of "Khrushchevka...a symbol of aging Soviet-era infrastructure

The architectural heritage of Russia includes some of the world's most famous sites, including St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. It also includes extensive post-World War II-era apartment buildings known as Khruschchevka (or Khrushchyovka), named after the famous Soviet leader. Construction of these low-cost concrete or brick apartment buildings proliferated during the 1960s to accommodate the growing Soviet population. Today, however, they are under threat of destruction—but should they be preserved?
