On March 31, the US Department of State announced a joint program with the Smithsonian Institution for an emergency program of restoration, preservation, and protection of sites and artifacts at Nimrud in Iraq. Following severe damage inflicted by ISIS in mid-2014, the American Schools of Oriental Research compiled a detailed report on the situation. All of the work conducted or sponsored by the US is being accomplished under the supervision of the Iraq government's antiquities and heritage agency.
