April 18 - Happy International Day of Monuments and Sites!

Since 1982, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) has celebrated April 18 as the International Day of Monuments and Sites. The theme for 2017 is Cultural Heritage & Sustainable Tourism." ICOMOS, based in Paris, was established In 1965 in large part out of concern following the rampant destruction after World War II of historic buildings throughout Europe that many thought could have been restored. Today, ICOMOS comprises numerous national committees with a total of more than 10,000 members, most of whom are professionals in the various fields associated with the research, conservation, and restoration of the world's built heritage.
