The world's largest private map collection to be donated to Stanford University
Real estate tycoon David Rumsey spent years acquiring what became the world's largest private map collection, consisting of 150,000 18th- and 19th-century maps of North and South America. Approximately 1/3 of the collection has been digitized and placed online. The entire collection will be donated to Stanford University. The David Rumsay Map Center at Stanford opened last year.
