The ancient city of Athens, Greece is considered to be the birthplace of democracy. Athenian Democracy, as it is now referred to by historians, developed around the 5th century BC, with other Greek cities subsequently following that model. Now, researchers in Mexico have identified a city that may have represented an early form of democracy in the Western Hemisphere.
