"This is shaping up to be a great wildflower year"

Following extensive rain, the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in California is seeing its most extensive bloom of wildflowers in nearly 20 years. The colorfully rare event includes blooms of purple sand verbena, white primroses, yellow-flowered brittlebrush, and the extremely rare purple notch-leaved phacelia. While in peak bloom, the wildflowers are best visited in the morning hours, as they tend to close up in the afternoon heat.
