Hopewell—World Heritage potential increases tourism
The Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks has been included on the US Tentative List for potential nomination to the World Heritage List since 2008. The site is managed by the National Park Service as the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park since 1923. Site's that are listed on the World Heritage List often see a significant increase in tourism. At Hopewell, the publicity received just from the potential for World Heritage designation has already resulted in a 33% increase in tourism last year.
