New US Cultural Property Agreement with Egypt
In 2014, a US movie entitled "Monuments Men" illustrated the true-to-life adventures of a group of American cultural heritage specialists to assist with finding, protecting, and preserving a vast array of cultural treasures extracted from across Europe by the Nazi regime during World War II. The movie was based on a non-fiction book about the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program sponsored by the US government. Perhaps the modern-day version of the Monuments Men can be found in the US State Department's Cultural Heritage Center. Recently, US Secretary of State John Kerry signed a new cultural property agreement with Egypt, the first of its kind between the US and a country in the Middle East or North Africa.
