HistoryQuestDC launches online

Washington, DC, as the capital of the United States, is a relative anomaly amongst national capital cities around the world. Many capital cities, such as Paris, Vienna, Rome, Beijing, etc., were established settlements long before the countries they now serve as the seat of national government even existed as countries in the modern-day sense. Washington, DC, on the other hand, was formed mostly out of farmland on the banks of the Potomac River shortly after the United States declared independence from England. Therefore, with the exception of the pre-existing waterfront towns of Georgetown (now a neighborhood of DC) and Alexandria (now in Virginia), DC's architecture documents the history of the first 200+ years of the nation's history. Now, the DC Office of Historic Preservation has launched an online resource for discovering the history of more than 120,000 buildings across the city.
