Ask and ye shall receive: The State Library of Virginia's new trove of Civil War documents

Collectors of rare books and manuscripts often have to go to great lengths—and great expense—to obtain their targets of interest. The State Library of Virginia, however, tried a different approach when seeking documents to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the end of the US Civil War. One of the original colonies of the United States, Virginia was essentially the epicenter of the great battles of the American Civil War in the 1860s. It turns out many families who still reside in the state were eager to share their keepsakes.
