The religious conversion of enslaved Africans in the United States has long been of interest to historians of African American history and, particularly, to archaeologists of colonial and American history. Researchers in Maryland may have found some of the most direct evidence yet of the confluence of African traditions with new ideas from Christianity at a former plantation
