Archaeological excavations at Pompeii and Herculaneum have revealed spectacularly well-preserved remains of these ancient cities. Further south and west along the coast of the Bay of Naples, some of the wealthiest citizens of ancient Rome built expansive seaside villas. One of these demonstrates the lifestyles of ancient Rome's richest citizens
