Climate change tourism adds its own threats to the Great Barrier Reef

A number of studies have documented the real and potential threats to heritage sites around the world from climate change. Warmer ocean waters leads to greater coral bleaching and rising sea levels threaten to drown historic sites and cities along the coasts. An increase in tourism to see threatened sites before they are destroyed adds its own destructive pressures
