Fossil-rich site found by quarry workers in the Basque Country
In 2012, quarry workers accidentally exposed portions of a site that contained one of the richest collections of ancient fossils ever found on the Iberian peninsula. The workers realized the discovery was probably important enough to contact researchers at the University of the Basque Country, who subsequently sent a team of archaeologists, geologists, and paleontologists to the site.
