While most Americans know of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in the Pacific Ocean that dragged the United States into World War II, fewer people probably know how close the war came to the Atlantic Coast of the US. In 1942, a German U-boat (actually a submarine) was sunk off the coast of North Carolina. After a multi-year search, researchers finally located the wreckage by sonar and radar in 2014. Now, the Nomad submersible has given us the first look at the sunken wreck since World War II.
