Happy 100th birthday to the US National Park Service!

On August 25, 1916, US President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Organic Act. This law did not create the first national park—Yellowstone National Park was the first, created in 1872—but it did create the National Park Service as a agency of the Department of the Interior with responsibility for managing and maintaining all national parks, battlefields, monuments, and historical places.
