“A guardian angel fighting for the soul of Philadelphia”

Many cities and towns count early advocates toiling alone as a key stepping stone in the fledgling US preservation movement in the mid-20th century. Once the banner was raised, the bulldozers were stopped in their paths of destruction, and like-minded souls joined the effort, non-profit organizations dedicated to guide the preservation movement forward were formed. Eventually, preservation-related laws, regulations, agencies and commissions were added to the mix. Now well into the 21st century, how is it that a sole preservation advocate in such an historic city as Philadelphia continue to have such an impact?
