Preserving community stories through public art

Washington, DC has a fascinating history of public murals as community story-telling. In recent years, a number of murals have been subjected to extensive restoration efforts as older neighborhoods have become gentrified. In some neighborhoods, artists our designing new, if temporary, murals to document the community’s history before new development changes the demographic identity of the area.
