Lomami National Park—Congo’s first in nearly 20 years
The Democratic Republic of Congo has seen years of civil war, making efforts to protect the country’s vast but remote natural heritage even more difficult. This new national park, some 2.2 million acres in size, encompasses some of the Congo’s most interesting species, including the bonobo, the great ape, the okapi, as well as forest giraffes and forest elephants.
