Reading strontium isotopes as fingerprints at Cahokia
Cahokia Mounds in Illinois is both a state historic site, a National Historic Landmark, and a World Heritage site. As the largest prehistoric earthen structure in the United States, Cahokia receives numerous visitors each year. Excavations of some of the burials in one of the largest burial mounds at the site have allowed researchers to learn a great deal about the lives, and deaths, of Cahokia’s former inhabitants.
