International Day for the Protection of Mangrove Ecosystems
Coastal ecosystems vary greatly across the globe, depending on the warmth of the ocean waters and the nature of the shore’s terrain. UNESCO recently highlighted the particular threat to mangroves, tropical trees that live in salt or brackish water, and the ecosystems they support. Protecting mangroves may indeed protect coastal communities from the effects of rising sea levels due to climate change.
