Breuer and brutalism in northern Virginia

Marcel Lajos Breuer (1902-1981) was one of the 20th century’s most famous modernist architects. Trained at the Bauhaus, Breuer went on to become a major proponent of brutalism, a style of architecture that today often evokes passionate opinions regarding the preservation or (for some) preferred demolition of these fortress-like structures. A case in point is a Breuer building outside of Washington, DC in Reston, Virginia.
