Philadelphia’s Navy Yard is reborn
Philadelphia was once home to the largest federal shipbuilding facility in the world, but when the aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy left the Navy Yard in 1995, it marked the closing of the naval facility. Although the federal government still retains a small amount of acreage at the former 1,200-acre facility, the remainder is being reborn with new development.
