“Not an ordinary funeral”
Archaeologists studying this 12,000-year-old grave site in northern Israel have identified six stages of the funerary ritual. The burial of a woman, possibly a shaman, included numerous items, including “sea shells, an eagle's wing, a leopard's pelvis, a forearm of a wild boar and even a human foot.’ The remarkably preserved grave and grave items allowed archaeologists to document one of the earliest known funerary rites.
