The world’s largest cathedral for 1,000 years

From its initial construction in 537 AD, this religious structure in Istanbul, Turkey, one of the most famous in the world, was initially an Orthodox cathedral, then a Roman Catholic cathedral, and later a mosque, before being converted to a museum in 1935. The recent “call to prayer” issued from inside the former church has reignited controversy about the role of the iconic domed structure in today’s world.
