Not for just “huddled masses” anymore
Ellis Island was added to the national park system in 1965, but much of the area was inaccessible or closed off to tourists until recent years. The Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration expanded its role last year in telling the stories of all immigrants to the United States, not just those that arrived some 100 years ago.
