Gold vs. natural and cultural heritage in Transylvania

A small Romanian village recently was declared a “site of national interest,” which thus far has helped block a Canadian firm from obtaining the necessary permits to open a gold mine. An historic church in Rosia Montana has already been moistly submerged by a tailing pond constructed for the mine.
