Aging infrastructure in the nation’s capital and park system

Although Yellowstone was designated as the nation’s first national park in 1872, the National Park Service was not created to oversee the expanding park system until 1916. Reaching 100 years old this year, the National Park Service is celebrating in part by calling attention to the backlog of maintenance needs. This writer compares the state of disrepair of the nation’s parks to the nation’s capital.
