New York’s Stonewall Inn becomes the nation’s first monument to the LGBT rights movement

The National Park Service has undertaking a heritage initiative to identify historic sites that mark the emergence of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights movement. President Obama named Stonewall Inn the first national monument in this effort.
